SKF has been around for over a century and in that time has earned a reputation as a world leader in bearing design and manufacture.
SKF was founded in 1907 in Sweden when Sven Wingquist invented the double-row self-aligning ball bearing. Sven was one of the founding members of SKF which has since gone on to expand into countries around the world, as well as design and manufacture a full catalogue of bearings.

Indeed, SKF have reported numerous instances in which counterfeit bearings have been detected and in each case, these fake bearings could have led to a major incident. For example, a petrochemical processor was forced to shut down when what were later discovered to be counterfeit bearings, failed dramatically.
Designing for the future
SKF is big on research and development, so much so that the company has research centres all over the world. The brand says it is driven especially by customer demand and global concerns. For example, recently SKF developed the RecondOil box, which uses double separation technology to allow customers to reuse oil.
